Lucy Page graduated with a BA (Hons) Early Childhood in Society – Social Pedagogy from the University of Worcester this year. Here she reflects on her experiences of Higher Education and her learner journey.
“One thing I have found during my time at the University of Worcester, and something I would tell any new student, is that this journey isn’t linear and it is definitely not something that can be planned to perfection, and that’s not a bad thing.
I initially joined the University of Worcester to study children’s nursing but quite quickly found that I didn’t have a passion for the course, the way my peers did. I wanted to make a difference to the opportunities children had in life and be able to not only protect, but support children from all backgrounds to reach their full potential in life.
I found the BA(Hons) Early Childhood in Society- Social Pedagogy course and immediately knew that this was the course for me. This course has provided me so many incredible opportunities including placements with amazing charities and organisations as well as an opportunity to spend a summer studying abroad in rural India (a once in a lifetime opportunity to say the least).
The support, guidance and knowledge I received from the lecturers on this course led me to graduating with a First Class Honours and has helped prepare me for continuing my studies through an MA in Social Work with the goal of eventually working as a Child Protection Liaison Officer. I feel that I am a completely different person, in all the best ways, to the young 18-year-old who first came here, and that is all thanks to this amazing course and the incredible staff that inspired, encouraged and supported me! I never thought I would be where I am today, and I couldn’t be more grateful.”
